Feeling angry and unable to connect or make sense of the moment, the song was written as a reminder that sometimes it’s better to let go and see the bigger picture and value for what an important person means to you in your life.

The links between hip hop and the early 20th century high modernist art movement called Dada are evident. To summarize, both began as reactionary movements and, at their cores, the primary ethic of both is make something with what you have directly in front of you. Dada certainly began as more politically oriented, nonetheless, I view these movements as cousins. Even their names draw attention to how closely related they are. Whether or not this is coincidental is a more grandiose discussion.

Five summers ago, quite by accident, and at exactly the right moment in my life, I found myself out in Richmond, Virginia, for one night only.  Having Yelp-ed a place for dinner, my boyfriend and I ended up at the one that promised over 30 beers on tap, and live bands every night.  Little did I know I was in for an experience that would spark a mad love affair with the eclectic, soul-bearing, party-starting force of nature that is the Richmond scene.  There is too much great music coming out of that city to capture it all in a 30 minute playlist, but here are some of the acts that have made a big impact on me over the last few years.
